At the Bottom of the Garden by Camilla Bruce

Rating: 4 out of 5.
what happens when two sisters with supernatural abilities move in with a reluctant aunt, who also happens to be a murderer?

Told from the alternating perspectives of Lily, Violet, and Clara, this gothic horror is filled with creeping dread and tension.

Lily and Violet are two sisters recently orphaned after their parents perish on the mountain K2. Their only living relative, their estranged aunt Clara, reluctantly takes them in, hoping to gain their inheritance. Unbeknownst to Clara, the girls have special abilities. And unbeknownst to the girls, Clara is a killer and has no issue with her misdeeds.

When Violet starts seeing ghosts around Clara’s house, questions arise and chaos ensues. Especially when the angry man at the bottom of the garden is set free.

This is a tale of found family, perseverance, and gothic dread. A little slow in places, but still a fantastic read.

Trigger Warnings and Themes: Gothic, witchcraft, familiars, haunting, death, child abuse/foster care system.
