Hard to believe… but yes, it’s true…
…It’s also a slap in the face to every Trans reader and author out there. Why? Because this kind of thing directly benefits the queen of bigotry herself, JK Rowling.

Lots of people like to try to claim these books aren’t linked to Harry Potter or the Dramione trope. But the opposite is true. Their publishers are even promoting them as HP Fanfic. This is not ok.

Don Martin explains the situation eloquently and calls out a well known bookish “Gossip Girl” for platforming these reads. Don explains how promoting these books is keeping JKR’s intellectual property in the public eye, leading to possible increased sales of all sorts of HP merch.
The books in question:
Rose in Chains by Julie Soto
Alchemised (and Manacled) by SenLinYu
The Irresistible Urge to Fall for Your Enemy by Brigitte Knightley

Scores of people have supported some of these authors for quite some time by buying and trading their bound fanfic. Now, people are clamoring over the ARCs in book groups before some are released this month. They ALL have more than 4 stars on Goodreads.
I have even seen prominent authors like Rebecca Ross (Divine Rivals) and Ali Hazelwood (Not in Love) providing praise by way of blurbs for these books…

Look, if you claim to be a Trans ally, you cannot also love and support these authors and their work. They are unapologetically producing HP fanfic re-branded as “new novels”, and that is harmful to our Trans community. JK Rowling has done enormous damage to people’s lives and this only further serves to help her mission to eliminate Trans folx.
Similarly, supporting social media influencers who platform these authors is damaging. Especially when such influencers provide non-apologies and continue to make money from their promo videos for these books.
Be a real ally: Stand up against bigotry and hatred and speak out when you see it.
