We Used to Live Here by Marcus Kliewer

Queer, haunted, what the f*** is going on here?!

A young queer couple move into an old house with a plan to flip it. Eve is our FMC and is described as a “people pleaser to a fault”. Shortly after moving in, a family shows up on their doorstep with the father claiming to have grown up there as a child. Eve, without her partner there to say no for her, allows the family inside to reminisce…and this is where the problems begin. The family’s youngest child goes missing and things get weird from there.

I LOVED this book so much. I am not easily scared or freaked out, and this one had me deeply unsettled. The twists and turns, and the ending, will have you screaming. Whether that’s from the terror or anger, I was not entirely sure.

And funny, or terrifying, story: About 2 days after finishing this book, a couple showed up at our house (in the middle of nowhere) and the man said he grew up here as a child. I legit panicked and was so glad my husband didn’t invite them in! They seemed harmless enough, but what are the odds they showed up after I read We Used to Live Here?!

This one gets 5 stars for absolutely creeping me out and making me feel connected to the main characters. I can’t wait to read more from Marcus!
